Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, and more recently, Learner Tien—American tennis has made a solid comeback in recent months, after a few years of struggles.
While Kovacevic may not be the most eccentric or charismatic player in this new golden generation, he is undoubtedly the most elegant.
Discovered on the courts of the Seoul Olympic Center, the New Yorker already dazzled the tennis world with his gorgeous one-handed backhand, reaching the semifinals of his first ATP 250 event.
With his explosive game and Shapovalov-esque flair, Kovacevic seemed on track for some big breakthroughs.

The confirmation was slow to come, but it now seems within reach. After a couple of years in 2023 and 2024 marked by few promising appearances on the ATP circuit, Kovacevic has kicked off the 2025 season in the best way possible.
Champion of the Oeiras Challenger in Portugal and a surprise finalist at the Open Sud de France, the 26-year-old has found a new confidence within himself, allowing him to take down established players like Andrey Rublev and Alexander Bublik on his way.
Though his career may have taken longer to gain momentum, Kovacevic now seems to have laid the groundwork for what could be his best season.
